Georges. P. Vanier Student Receives Provincial Recognition
Congratulations to Lucas Hauch for being awarded an honourable mention in the 2022-23 Honouring Spirit: Indigenous Student Awards. This provincial award recognizes students who display exemplary leadership, courage, and commitment to their cultures and educational paths.
Lucas is a role model who leads by example. He is a key component of Vanier’s Breakfast Club program and encourages fellow students while also offering correction when necessary. As a member of the Mentorship class, he helped to plan a fundraiser for the FCSS Christmas Hamper program and volunteered twice a week at a local senior home and an elementary school.
Proud of his Indigenous heritage, Lucas has been a member of the school’s Youth Council for Reconciliation for several years and volunteers his time during celebration days and activities. One of these activities was baking bannock, and Kokum Connie can attest that “he makes good bannock.” He also takes Indigenous teachings seriously and was once observed redirecting other students during an activity, saying, “It’s important stuff; please listen.”
A strong leader on many school sports teams, Lucas is one of the first players to arrive and the last to leave. He participated in the 2022 Vanier Indigenous Games.
In 2021 Lucas received a Volunteer Award from FCSS for his dedication and efforts with the local Food Bank. Crystal Tremblay from FCSS Smoky River shares that Lucas has used the struggles he has encountered in his life to become a stronger person. Her staff describe Lucas as “one of the most polite, honest, and hardest workers” they have ever met.
Lucas, your work ethic and positive attitude make you a role model for others. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition, and best of luck in the future.
