Six female students from High Prairie Elementary School participated in the University of Alberta CHOICES 2023 virtual conference on Friday, February 24. Each year, one team of girls and gender-diverse students from each school is eligible to attend this event, which is geared towards Women in Scholarship, Engineering, Science, and Technology (WISEST). Teachers or administrators must register the students, and a limited number of spots are available to each school district.
WISEST focuses on creating effective programs that empower women (and other underrepresented groups) to pursue, impact, and succeed in the fields of science, engineering, and technology.
This year, students were required to complete three challenges:
1. Create a pocket-sized computer using coding with micro:bits,
2. Build a mini rocket,
3. Construct a cooler that could keep an ice cube in its solid state for two hours.
Thank you to Mrs. Porisky for going the extra mile to support these students' love of science and passion for learning. The High Prairie School Division is proud to help students achieve their dreams!
