We are proud to recognize three students for being awarded honourable mentions in the 2022-23 Honouring Spirit: Indigenous Student Awards. This provincial recognition awards students who display exemplary leadership, courage, and commitment to their cultures and educational paths.

Kobe Chalifoux excels in academics and sports, and shows extraordinary drive and perseverance in all he does. He is a model leader who takes the time to work with others and help them improve. One of the best qualities of Kobe is how humble he is. In addition to school, Kobe has made the commitment this year to play for the Grande Prairie Warriors hockey team. His hockey coach says that Kobe comes from a great family that has moulded him into the leader he has become and will be. Through tough losses and epic wins, his positive attitude is infectious, and the way he presents himself is always with class and respect. Great job, Kobe!

Oliver Fors works hard to achieve success in all subjects. He often shares hunting and fishing stories and speaks about his culture with others, showing wonderful pride in his culture. Oliver always attempts to make our school a better place by celebrating good deeds and promoting kindness in the classroom. He is willing to help others and continually shows his classmates that he cares by complimenting them and praising them for a job well done. Oliver’s hockey coach says that he is a leader on his hockey team by always encouraging his team, and that he has a great work ethic and attitude. Congratulations, Oliver!

Scarlett Palisoc’s love for her culture comes through in all aspects of her life. She can often be seen wearing her Métis sash proudly, and when asked, she explains to people what it represents and why she wears it. She is a leader and role model, and encourages others to take pride in their culture, and embrace their identity. Academically, Scarlett is an extremely hard worker who sets goals and strives to meet or exceed them. Outside of school, she is a member of the Scorpion Tae Kwon Do club and also a hockey team. Great job, Scarlett!

Kobe, Oliver, and Scarlett, your work ethic and positive attitude make you a role model for others. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition, and best of luck in the future.
