High Prairie School Division students will be busy learning about Métis culture this week. Anchored in history, ancestral Métis territory encompassed the entirety of Alberta, along with two other prairie provinces, portions of two other provinces, and one territory.
Students from East Prairie Métis Settlement, Gift Lake Métis Settlement, and Peavine Métis Settlement form an integral part of our school division, bringing with them unique perspectives and traditions that enrich our collective learning environment.
Student presentations and activities include:

-Métis anthem and learnings on why we honour Métis Week,
-Performance by a Métis jigger and live music with Harry Davies & Peter Sound,
-Moose calling contest,
-Sash teachings,
-Métis dot art teachings followed by active collaborative creation of a mural,
-Jigging,
-Michif language (a blend of French nouns and Cree verbs) learnings with French classes,
-Storytelling & joke contest.
