The High Prairie School Division Board of Trustees met on Tuesday, April 18, for their regularly scheduled meeting. After additions to the agenda were received, the meeting began with the Finance Report being received and accepted.
The Division is continuing to accept nominations for the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Friends of Education Award. Nominations must be submitted to the ASBA zone by June 30.
Trustees approved a bronze sponsorship of the Skills Canada: Alberta competition. Students from High Prairie School Division regularly participate in the annual event, which "...promote(s) excellence in trades and technology careers through skills competitions, hands-on programs for students and resources for educators".
Trustees then discussed the recent change to the training requirements for school bus drivers as the Government of Alberta has announced the removal of Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) for school bus drivers. School bus drivers will continue to be trained in-house by HPSD staff and externally for S endorsement.
The Board approved the amended 2023-24 operational calendar as presented.
The following amended board policies received first, second, and third and final readings:
- Board Policy 2 - Role of the Board,
- Board Policy 5 - Role of the Board Chair,
- Board Policy 9 - Policy Making, and
- Board Policy 14 - School Closures
The meeting then moved back into closed.
